Yun: Meeting with US State Secretary to Produce Clearer Message to N. Korea

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se has expressed expectations that the U.S. will send a clearer message to North Korea over its nuclear and missile programs during an upcoming foreign ministers’ meeting between the two allies.

Yun, who is staying in Bonn, Germany to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting planned for Thursday and Friday, is scheduled to hold a meeting with the U.S. State Secretary Rex Tillerson on the sidelines of the G20 event.

In a meeting with reporters on Wednesday, Yun said the Trump administration is making its stances clear regarding North Korea and the Korean Peninsula policies, adding their stance will be reaffirmed during his meeting with Tillerson.

Yun noted that Tillerson already made comments officially and unofficially about the North during his Senate confirmation hearings or in phone conversations with him, and that the meeting between them will likely reaffirm those comments.

In a phone discussion with Yun on Tuesday of last week, Tillerson identified the North as an "immediate threat", emphasizing the necessity of close coordination between Seoul and Washington.

U.S. President Trump also warned on Monday that North Korea will be dealt with “very strongly” following the North's first missile test-fire under his presidency, carried out on Sunday.
