Chinese, Japanese FMs Agree on Importance of Abiding by UN Sanctions Resolutions

The top diplomats of China and Japan held one-on-one talks in the German city of Bonn on Friday and agreed on the importance of complying with UN Security Council resolutions sanctioning North Korea.

This is according to Japan's Foreign Ministry, as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida are both attending the G20 foreign ministers meeting in Bonn.

During the bilateral, Kishida called on Beijing to strictly implement the UN sanctions resolutions on North Korea and respond constructively as a standing member of UN Security Council.

In response, Wang Yi said his country was clearly implementing UN resolutions.

The Chinese minister again requested that Japan accept the "one-China policy" which regards Taiwan as part of China. The Japanese minister said that Tokyo respects China's stance.

Meanwhile the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that during the talks, Minister Yi urged Japan to refrain from actions that can aggravate bilateral relations in connection to the territorial dispute over the Senkaku Islands known as Diaoyu Islands in Chinese.
