Malaysian Police Have Solid Ground to Believe N. Korea Behind Kim Jong-nam's Murder

Malaysian police reportedly have solid ground to conclude that North Korea is behind the murder of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s half brother Kim Jong-nam.

Quoting high-ranking police officials, Malaysian newspaper New Straits Times reported on Sunday that Ri Jong-chol, a North Korean citizen arrested over the assassination, is believed to be an operative of the North Korean Reconnaissance General Bureau and that police have solid evidence to draw links between the suspect and the murder.

The paper said that Ri was picked up from a condominium in Jalan Kuchai Lama, which reportedly has been used as a safehouse for North Korean agents since 2011.

The report said that Malaysian police believe the three other men captured by CCTV cameras at Kuala Lumpur International Airport are also North Korean.

Malaysian police reached a tentative conclusion about the case on Saturday and plan to announce its probe results on Sunday afternoon in a news conference.

The paper said that the planned news conference will shed light on the case, although it is uncertain whether Malaysian authorities will disclose the conclusion of the toxicologist report.

It added that the first arrest made on Vietnamese national Doan Thi Huong two days after the murder, was enough for the police to make a major breakthrough in their investigation.
