"It shows the North Korean regime's recklessness and brutality and how it is using whatever means necessary to maintain its regime."

Hwang said the South Korean government should seek cooperation with the international community so that the North will pay for its terrorist acts.

Hwang called for special alertness regarding potential terrorism against the South Korean government and its people, explaining that the North's terrorism method is becoming bolder. He said the government should thoroughly prepare for other provocations by the North as it could attempt to turn away international attention.

The acting president ordered close cooperation between ministries to review the government's counter-terrorism policies and to assure preventive measures against terrorism as well as effective response capabilities.

He also called on the military to retain a firm readiness posture against North Korea based on cooperation with Washington.

He said the joint military exercises with the U.S. in March will act as a restraint against possible provocations by the North and assure public confidence in national security.
