Int'l Alliance of N. Korean Defectors Seeking Gov’t-in-Exile

An organization of North Korean defectors based in Europe says that it attempted to contact North Korean Ambassador to the Czech Republic Kim Pyong-il to appoint him as the leader of a North Korean government-in-exile.
Kim Joo-il, the director general of the London-based International Alliance for Overseas Groups of North Korean Defectors, told a South Korean news outlet Monday that his organization sent a verbal message to the ambassador through a North Korean escapee living in the Czech Republic in October last year, but he has not replied.
The ambassador is a younger half brother of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il
The alliance has been seeking to contact Kim Pyong-il as they regard him as a suitable leader of an envisioned North Korean government-in-exile.
The director general said that the alliance supports the ambassador as the leader of the government-in-exile. North Korean defectors in South Korea had opted for Kim Jong-nam, the recently assassinated half brother of current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to take on the role.
Since launching its efforts last year, the alliance has been working to hold a meeting of its member organizations in Seoul in April this year to discuss the establishment of the government-in-exile.
