Malaysian Ministers Urge Re-examination of Diplomatic Ties with Pyongyang

Malaysian ministers are calling on the Malaysian government to reconsider its diplomatic ties with North Korea following the murder of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s half brother Kim Jong-nam.
According to Malaysian daily "New Straits Times" on Sunday, Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz said on Saturday during a local event that he believes it does not matter if Malaysia cuts its diplomatic ties with North Korea because he does not see any gains for the country from its relations with Pyongyang.
The minister added that it’s been over five years since Japan severed its diplomatic relation with the North and Japan has not had any problems since then.
Other Malaysian Cabinet ministers, including education and defense ministers also made similar calls for the re-examination of diplomatic ties with the North.
North Korean Ambassador to Malaysia Kang Chol accused the Malaysian government of colluding with external forces such as South Korea in the Kim Jong-nam murder, triggering a protest from the Malaysian people and a diplomatic spat with Malaysia.
