NIS: N. Korean Regime behind Killing of Kim Jong-nam

South Korea’s state intelligence agency said the murder of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's half-brother Kim Jong-nam was carried out by officials of the North’s state security and foreign ministries.

According to Rep. Lee Cheol-woo of the ruling Liberty Korea Party, the National Intelligence Service(NIS) director Lee Byung-ho told a National Assembly Intelligence Committee meeting on Monday that the February 13th death of Kim in Malaysia is a terrorist act orchestrated by the young North Korean leader.

The NIS further confirmed that the victim is Kim Jong-nam, noting there is ample evidence to verify his identity.

During the parliamentary hearing, the NIS also reported that four of the eight North Koreans sought after by Malaysian authorities are officials of the North’s Ministry of State Security, while two others are from the North’s Foreign Ministry.

The NIS identified the other two suspects as an employee of the North’s airliner, Air Koryo, and an employee of North Korea’s state-run trade firm called Sin-gwang.

According to the spy agency, the eight North Korean suspects were divided into two assassination groups and their assistants.

The first assassination group was led by Ri Jae-nam from the Ministry of State Security and Ri Ji-hyon from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who hired Vietnamese suspect, Doan Thi Huong.

The second group consisted of Oh Jong-gil from the Ministry of State Security and Hong Song-hak from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through whom Indonesian suspect Siti Aisyah was drawn into the assassination scheme.
