NIS: N. Korean Spy Chief Locked up, Deputies Executed

South Korea’s state intelligence authority says the North’s spy agency chief has been demoted and locked up for making a false report to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
After the National Intelligence Service's report to parliamentary intelligence committee on Monday, member lawmakers revealed the recent findings about the North’s State Security Minister Kim Won-hong.
Amid his prolonged absence from the public, the NIS said that Kim Won-hong has been taken into state custody for a false report, and at least five of his deputy-level officials were executed.
The state security officials were said to have been shot to death by high-caliber air-defense machine guns.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was said to have been furious after learning about the spy chief's interrogation and torture of party officials and his subsequent false reports about the accusations.
The intelligence agency said the North is continuing its investigation into the ministry officials and more officials may be subject to punishment.
