US Considers Re-Listing N. Korea as Terror Sponsor

Washington has begun considering putting North Korea back on its list of state sponsors of terrorism amid suspicions that Pyongyang used WMD-classified VX nerve agent to kill Kim Jong-nam.

According to South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Hong-kyun, the U.S. government revealed its move during the top nuclear envoys’ meeting in Washington on Monday.

Kim represented South Korea at the top nuclear envoys’ meeting, where he discussed North Korean issues along with the U.S.' Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun and Japan's Director-General for the Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Kenji Kanasugi.

The North was first placed on the U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism in 1988 after the bombing of a Korean Air flight in 1987. However, it was delisted in 2008 when the U.S. and the North were negotiating over the North’s nuclear program.
