N. Korea Denies Possession or Use of Chemical Weapons

North Korea claims it has never produced or used chemical weapons, denying its involvement in the murder of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s half-brother Kim Jong-nam in Malaysia.
Councilor Ju Yong-chol at North Korea’s mission to Geneva claimed on Tuesday at the Conference on Disarmament in Switzerland that the North has never produced, stockpiled or used chemical weapons, and rejects the assumptions and speculations on the death of a North Korean in Malaysia.
At the UN-backed forum, Ju also criticized South Korea’s suggestion that Pyongyang could lose its UN seat because of the use of chemical weapons, calling the suggestion despicable and illogical.
It is the first time that the North commented on the murder at a UN conference although it did not mention the name Kim Jong-nam.
The Malaysian government recently confirmed that nerve agent VX was used to assassinate Kim.
According to South Korea's defense "white paper" report, the North's chemical weapons stockpile is estimated at between 25-hundred and five-thousand tons.
