S. Korea, Spain Discuss N. Korea in Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se has discussed North Korea with his Spanish counterpart Alfonso Dastis in Madrid.
Yun is the first South Korean foreign minister to visit Spain for a bilateral meeting in eleven years.
In the meeting, the South Korean minister asked for the Spanish government’s continued cooperation in improving human rights conditions in the North and pressuring the regime. He stressed that the use of an internationally banned chemical weapon in the assassination of Kim Jong-nam is a blatant challenge to international norms and order.
In response, the Spanish foreign minister expressed deep concerns about North Korea’s missile and nuclear programs and crimes against humanity. He promised that Madrid will actively work for the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the quick adoption of unilateral EU sanctions.
While welcoming the launch of strategic dialogue between their ministries this year, the two ministers also agreed to boost South Korea-Spain cooperation in the fields of information, communication, science and technology through a joint economic committee and consultative bodies.
