Gov't Cautious on Welcoming Kim Han-sol if Request is Made

A Unification Ministry official said Thursday that he cannot say for sure whether the government will welcome Kim Han-sol, the son of Kim Jong-nam who was murdered last month, if he wishes to come to South Korea.

The official expressed the cautious stance when he met with reporters, saying that the government has no position on a hypothetical situation.

The official said he has no information on the Cheollima Civil Defense which is the group that posted a YouTube video of Kim Han-sol, or his whereabouts.

On the possibility that Kim is hiding out somewhere in Europe, the ministry official said that Kim could be comfortable there given that Europe, compared to Southeast Asia or China, is better in terms of security and has a different view on human rights and on dealing with North Korea issues.

In a video posted on YouTube Wednesday under the title "KHS Video", Kim Han-sol was confirmed to have revealed his name and said that he is part of the Kim family in the North. He then added that his father was killed a few days ago and that he is currently with his mother and sister.
