Two S. Koreans Arrested in China for Aiding N. Korean Defectors

Two South Korean pastors have been arrested by Chinese police for helping North Korean defectors in the border region of North Korea and China.

According to Peter Jung, chief of the Seoul-based human rights group “Justice for North Korea,” a pastor was arrested on February 18th with his wife and two children at an airport in Qingdao City in Shandong Province before taking a flight to South Korea.

The other pastor was caught with his wife at a hotel in Qinhuangdao City in Hebei Province.

Jung said the families of the two pastors were all released after two days of questioning.

He said the ministers, while being interrogated, claimed they helped North Korean defectors because they would face inhumane treatment from North Korea if deported by China.

Jung said Chinese police relocated the pastors to a detention center in Liaoning Province to indict them on charges of helping North Korean defectors leave China.
