S. Korea, Sri Lanka Strongly Opposed to Chemical Weapons

The foreign ministers of South Korea and Sri Lanka have expressed concerns and serious opposition to the fact that the VX nerve agent was used in the assassination of Kim Jong-nam.

The Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and his Sri Lankan counterpart Mangala Samaraweera shared the view when they met in the capital Colombo. Yun is visiting the island country in South Asia as this year marks the 40th anniversary of South Korea and Sri Lanka establishing diplomatic ties.

The two officials also noted that North Korea’s latest provocations, including ballistic missile launches, pose a serious threat to peace and security of not only the Korean Peninsula and the Asia-Pacific region but of the entire world as a whole.

During his stay, Yun also made a courtesy call on Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
