Foreign Minister Yun Expects Tougher N. Korea Policies from US

South Korea’s Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said on Thursday that the Donald Trump administration is taking North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats more seriously than the previous Obama administration.

Yun made the remarks during a media conference at the South Korean Embassy in Washington D.C., summarizing the outcome of his visit to the U.S.

He said these changed views on the North is prompting Washington to explore every possible measure available in dealing with the regime, adding no matter what new measures the U.S. announces against the North, there will be close coordination between Seoul and Washington.

Yun said he does not think the U.S. will surprise South Korea with its North Korea policies, noting his view was shared by U.S. Congress representatives he met during his ongoing visit to the U.S. adding that the Trump administration is in the final stage of reviewing its new North Korea policies.

Regarding the U.S. Defense Secretary’s strong rebuke against China during a Wednesday Senate hearing over its retaliation of the THAAD installment in South Korea, Yun said U.S. lawmakers, both Republican and Democratic, are also seeing China’s unfair pressure over South Korea as problematic.
