Seoul Welcomes UN Human Rights Resolution

The South Korean government has welcomed the UN Human Rights Council's adoption on Friday of a resolution condemning the human rights situation in North Korea.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck said the resolution strengthens the UN mechanism to hold accountable perpetrators of human rights violations in the North. Cho also said the resolution newly included calls for an end to human rights violations committed by the North outside the communist nation and efforts for guaranteeing freedom of expression online.
The UNHRC has been adopting resolutions on the North's human rights issue since 2003.
