S. Korea, US Practice Destroying N. Korean Chemical Weapons

South Korea and the United States conducted a joint exercise last week on destroying North Korean chemical weapons.

The U.S. Forces Korea said that the two nations practiced removing the lethal nerve agent sarin at a shooting range in Paju, Gyeonggi Province on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the ongoing Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercises.

About 400 troops from the two nations participated in the exercise “Warrier Strike 6,” during which the allies raided a mock North Korean chemical weapons factory and destroyed its products.

The two sides also carried out a joint drill to seize and destroy North Korean weapons of mass destruction from February 14th to 17th at a live fire complex in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.

The South Korean military estimates that the North has up to five-thousand tons of chemical weapons in 25 types including the VX nerve agent, which was used to assassinate the North Korean leader’s half-brother Kim Jong-nam.
