N. Korean Defectors Pushing for Gov't-in-Exile Hold Inaugural Meeting in LA

Radio Free Asia said Thursday that an association of North Korean defectors preparing to establish a North Korean government-in-exile held its inaugural meeting in the U.S. earlier this month.
The U.S. international broadcaster said a total of 27 defectors including eleven founding members attended the meeting held in Los Angeles on March eleventh.
During the meeting, they issued a 12-point statement on the objectives of the group's establishment which included toppling North Korea's third generation power succession, taking over the North's regime and realizing free democracy and market economy in the communist nation.
The association objects to any country occupying, dividing or ruling North Korea and only recognizes the South Korean government's rule over the North Korean territory. This call was included in a seven-point doctrine for the North Korean government-in-exile.
The government-in-exile's constitution, platform and plans on government structure and composition are also being drawn up.
The secretary general of the newly founded group told Radio Free Asia that it's planning its first international conference in LA this summer to which North Korean defectors and human rights activists from around the world will be invited.
