38 North: N. Korea May Be Ready to Conduct Nuke Test Any Time
The U.S.-based North Korea-monitoring Web site, 38 North, said activities at North Korea’s main nuclear test site have slowed down, suggesting the regime is now ready to conduct a nuclear test at any time.
In an analysis article on Thursday, the Web site said the visibly heightened activities at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site observed through satellite imagery from March 28th have slowed, adding vehicles and trailers at the North Portal are no longer visible.
It said the changes may indicate that preparations are complete and that a test could occur at any time.
However, it also said the activities observed in recent days may not be related to a nuclear test as it had previously suspected, cautioning against Pyongyang’s ability to manipulate reporting about developments at Punggye-ri.
On Wednesday, the Web site released satellite imagery showing a large contingent consisting of 70 to 100 people standing in formation in the courtyard of the Main Administrative Area at the site.
38 North had speculated an imminent nuclear test, saying such a large gathering hasn’t been seen since January fourth of 2013, a month before the North’s third nuclear test.
