Report: The U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed legislation calling for redesignating North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism and a resolution condemning the North's intercontinental ballistic missile.

The House on Monday passed the North Korea State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act (H.R.479), introduced by Rep. Ted Poe in January, in a 398-three vote. The resolution on the North's missile development was approved in a 394-one vote.

The terrorism bill, which urges the U.S. State Department to relist the North as a state terrorist for the first time in nine years, gained traction after the assassination of the North Korean leader's half brother Kim Jong-nam in Malaysia in February. The killing of Kim by VX nerve agent was added to the bill after it was introduced on January 12th.

The bill also condemns China's retaliation against South Korea following Seoul's decision to deploy the U.S. antimissile system THAAD and urges Beijing to immediately stop its retaliatory measures.

The bill requires the State Department to submit a report within 90 days after its enactment on whether Pyongyang meets the criteria for a terror sponsor. If the department determines that the North doesn't merit the designation, it is required to offer a detailed justification for the decision.
