US: No Dialogue without N. Korean Stance Change

The United States government has reaffirmed that it will not engage in dialogue or negotiation with North Korea unless Pyongyang changes its stance on its denuclearization.
Washington presented the position on Friday during a joint news conference of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, and Secretary Commerce Wilbur Ross on President Donald Trump’s summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Florida.
Tillerson said that during the summit, the two sides noted the urgency of the threat of North Korea’s weapons program, reaffirmed their commitment to a denuclearized Korean Peninsula, and committed to fully implement United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Tillerson said that the two leaders had wide-ranging and comprehensive discussions on the reclusive state, but there was no package arrangement discussed to resolve the North Korean issue.
He added that North Korea’s posture has to change before there’s any basis for dialogue or discussions.
The U.S. state secretary also said that Washington is prepared to chart its own course if China is unable to coordinate with the United States on the North’s nuclear issue.
