N. Korea Criticizes US Supercarrier Deployment

North Korea has threatened to take the toughest counteractions against the U.S. as a US aircraft carrier was sent to waters near the Korean Peninsula.
In an interview with the North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) on Monday, a spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry responded to the U.S.' decision to deploy the USS Carl Vinson strike group.
While warning that his country will hold the U.S. wholly accountable for the catastrophic consequences of outrageous actions, the spokesperson claimed that the move proves the U.S.’ ploy to invade the North has now entered a practical stage.
The spokesperson also claimed that the U.S.’ military threats only justifies Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile developments, adding the North will not flinch at U.S. President Donald Trump’s “peace through strength” rhetoric.
The USS Carl Vinson returned to the western Pacific near the Korean Peninsula last weekend, only two weeks after it took part in the joint Foal Eagle exercises with the South Korean military last month.
The South Korean Defense Ministry on Monday confirmed the redeployment of the Carl Vinson, saying it was to prepare for possible strategic provocations by North Korea.
