Trump: US Set to Resolve N. Korea Problem

Anchor: U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said earlier this week that U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping had an unofficial one-on-one meeting about the North Korean issue during their summit. Trump on Tuesday revealed on Twitter his remarks to Xi, stressing again that the U.S. will solve the problem of North Korea on its own unless China offers its help.

Report: President Trump said North Korea is "looking for trouble."

In a series of comments on Twitter Tuesday, Trump also said that he told Chinese President Xi Jinping "a trade deal with the U.S. will be far better for them if they solve the North Korean problem."

He said if China does not help, the U.S. will solve the problem on its own.

This is the third time just this month that he alluded the U.S. can unilaterally deal with the situation all the while urging for a change in Beijing’s stance.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer commented on the tweets in a regular press briefing.

"The president is not one to go out there and telegraph his response. He has made it clear with respect to North Korea that their actions with respect to missile launches is not tolerable. The last thing we want to see is a nuclear North Korea that threatens the coast of the United States or for that matter any other country."

Referring to the recent U.S. air strike on Syria, Spicer said it shows when Trump is willing to act, it’s going to be decisive and proportional.

Asked about the redeployment of a US aircraft carrier to the Korean Peninsula, Spicer said it is a prudent measure to ensure that the U.S. has strategic capabilities and options in the region.
