Foreign Ministers of US, Russia Discuss N. Korea

U.S. and Russian foreign ministers agreed that North Korea needs to be denuclearized during a bilateral meeting in Moscow on Wednesday.

During a joint news conference following the meeting with U.S. State Secretary Rex Tillerson, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said both sides were determined to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through diplomatic talks.

He said they discussed ways to resume negotiations regarding the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and end a vicious cycle of confrontations in the region.

As for the redeployment of the USS Carl Vinson to the Korean Peninsula, Tillerson said it is simply part of routine movement.

During the meeting, the two sides also agreed to enhance Washington-Moscow relations that have declined in recent years, however failed to produce any breakthrough on Syrian issues.
