Report: U.S. President Donald Trump said he expects China to play an active role in resolving the North Korea issue.

“I think he wants to help us with North Korea. We talked trade, we talked a lot of things, and I said, the way you are going to make a good trade deal is to help us with North Korea.”

In an earlier interview with Fox Business Network, Trump criticized North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for doing the wrong thing, issuing a strong warning against the North Korean threats.

“we have the best military people on earth. I will say this… he is doing the wrong thing.”

Trump emphasized that he is different from his predecessor Barack Obama, saying the former administration gave the enemy months to prepare before the U.S. air strike on Mosul, an indication that he won’t rule out taking military action against the North without a warning should Pyongyang provoke again.

"You never know… You know I don’t talk about the military. I am not like Obama where they talked about in four months we are raiding, we are going to hit Mosul and in the meantime they get ready and… they are still fighting in Mosul, which is supposed to last for a week and they are fighting for many months."

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal published Wednesday Trump said his deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier to waters near the Korean Peninsula is to deter North Korea from additional provocations.

Trump also reneged on his pledge to designate China as a currency manipulator he expressed that labeling China as currency manipulators could jeopardize his talks with Beijing on confronting the threat from North Korea.

The White House said the telephone talks between Trump and Xi were productive, raising speculations that Xi may have yielded, to some extent, to Trump’s pressure regarding the resolution of North Korean issues.
