U.S. President Donald Trump says his deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier to waters near the Korean Peninsula is to deter North Korea from additional provocations.
 
Amid growing speculation about another North Korean nuclear test, Trump held an interview with the Wall Street Journal at the White House on Wednesday.
 
While revealing his intentions to deter a nuclear test in North Korea, he told the paper that as Kim jong-un has yet to develop a warhead delivery mechanism, the world should not let the North have nuclear weapons.
 
Trump said he told Chinese President Xi Jinping that he can make concessions in the U.S.-China trade issue should Beijing helps address the North Korean problem.
 
He said he won’t label China as a currency manipulator, adding such designation could imperil the U.S. conversations with China over the North Korean threats.
