N. Korea Unveils New Street in Pyongyang Before Foreign Media

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un declared the completion of a newly constructed street in Pyongyang in a ceremony on Thursday to which foreign correspondents were invited.

Japan's NHK and other foreign news outlets said Ryomyong Street was unveiled to foreign media during a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

NHK showed footage of Kim Jong-un cutting the ribbon himself and clapping his hands.

North Korean authorities notified members of the foreign press in Pyongyang earlier in the day to get ready for a "big event."  Reporters were said to be gathered in the early morning hours and led to the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Ryomyong Street project is a new town development project by the Kim regime used to show that global sanctions imposed on North Korea have no effects on the North.

The street is lined with high rise buildings, including a 70-story apartment.
