Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warns the North Korean nuclear issue cannot be resolved militarily and if a provocation is triggered, concerned parties will have to take responsibility.

As regional tensions rise over concerns of a possible sixth nuclear test by North Korea, China's top diplomat spoke to reporters in Beijing on Thursday, following talks with his Palestinian counterpart.

According to the Global Times daily, the minister said the situation on the Korean Peninsula can't be resolved by force and expressed hope for opportunities to occur for current tensions to give way to dialogue.

Minister Yi cautioned that if any party wages a provocation over the North Korean situation, it must be held historically accountable.

He stressed a framework for dialogue needs to be revived to deal with issues on the Korean Peninsula.
