The head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) has warned against North Korea’s rapid advancement of its nuclear capability.
 
CIA Director Mike Pompeo discussed North Korea in a forum on national security, which was hosted by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies on Thursday.
 
He said that North Korea is closer now than ever to being able to threaten the U.S. with a nuclear-tipped intercontinental missile by increasing its technical know-how with each new test.
 
Pompeo said that multiple U.S. administrations have tried to deal with the threat of a North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile loaded with a nuclear warhead.  He added that what’s different, unique and new is that the North is building up its knowledge base and capacity to develop nuclear weapons and missiles.
 
The CIA chief stressed that North Korea’s speedy upgrade of its nuclear capability has in turn reduced Washington’s options and “makes it more likely that you get a bad decision on a tough day from the leader of North Korea.”
