War Rumors Spreading in N. Korea-China Border Area

Rumors war could break out along the North Korea-China are spreading amid growing military tensions around the Korean Peninsula.

According to ethnic Korean communities in the three provinces of northeastern China, a message titled "urgent notice" has been circulating on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.

The message claims a war could soon break out between the U.S. and North Korea, and a medical unit of the China's People's Liberation Army will head to the North Korean border to assist refugees that may cross into China.

The rumors surfaced after the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group was redirected toward the Korean Peninsula. They have been spreading fast among Chinese netizens ahead of an important North Korean holiday on Saturday.

In a statement Wednesday, China's Defense Ministry denied rumors of a 150-thousand-strong troop deployment in the border area, calling it a "complete fabrication."
