Chinese Newspaper: N. Korea Kicks Ball of Nuke Crisis to U.S.

A Chinese state-run news outlet says that North Korea has kicked the ball of the nuclear crisis back to the U.S.’ court by revealing its newly developed weapons and test firing a missile over the weekend.

The Global Times, a sister paper of the Communist Party’s official newspaper the People's Daily, said in an editorial on Monday that the North sent strong signals to the outside world through a military parade on Saturday and a missile launch the following day.

The Chinese newspaper added that it is usual for Pyongyang to fire missiles around major anniversaries, but that the latest launch is especially meaningful, as it came amid mounting pressure on the regime from Washington and Beijing.

The paper also said that the U.S. has given a warning to North Korea by conducting military strikes on Syria and Afghanistan and declaring that it is prepared to deal with the regime alone. But Pyongyang’s moves over the weekend have demonstrated its determination to continue its nuclear and missile programs.

The Chinese newspaper warned that if the North pushes ahead with a sixth nuclear test despite international opposition, China will support a new UN Security Council resolution, which includes tougher sanctions like blocking the supply of crude oil to North Korea.
