Washington has assured that the THAAD antimissile system is being deployed to South Korea smoothly as planned.
 
Acting Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Susan Thornton made the assurance during a telephone briefing with reporters on Monday, dismissing speculation that Seoul and Washington may readjust the pace of the THAAD deployment pending on the upcoming South Korean presidential election.
 
Regarding the speculation surrounding Pyongyang’s imminent sixth nuclear test, Thornton warned such a move will be met by a stern response from the international community. 

She stressed there will be no talks with Pyongyang without its sincere action on its denuclearization.
