China Repeats Calls for Dialogue on N. Korean Nuke Issue

China has repeated its calls for dialogue to solve the North Korean nuclear issue.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Tuesday during a regular briefing that Beijing hopes to see tensions on the Korean Peninsula ease, calling on all relevant parties to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible.

The spokesman said it is necessary to create a favorable environment for seeking a reasonable solution to the current crisis through talks.

China proposed a halt to both the North's nuclear and missile threats and South Korea-U.S. joint military drills. It also proposed dialogue for North Korea's denuclearization and a peace treaty to replace the Korean War armistice signed in 1953.
