'Trump Ready to Cooperate with S. Korea, China, Japan on N. Korean Nukes'

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence says President Donald Trump is resolved to collaborate with South Korea, China and Japan to peacefully resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

According to Japanese broadcaster NHK and Kyodo News, Pence made the remarks on Tuesday during a luncheon meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

The American vice president reportedly said that Washington desires peace just like Japan, but stressed peace through strength, indicating the use of various strategies to resolve the North Korean problem.

Pence also reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among South Korea, the U.S. and Japan, saying that Washington believes working with allies is very important for regional security.

In response, Abe said he believes in diplomatic and peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue but added dialogue for the sake of dialogue is meaningless, reiterating it is necessary to press Pyongyang to start negotiations.
