Japan's Basic Stance is Diplomatic Solution to N. Korean Issue

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida says Japan appreciates U.S. efforts to enhance deterrence against North Korea, but Japan's basic stance is to seek a diplomatic solution to the North Korean issue.

According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, Kishida told parliament on Wednesday that U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said peace comes through strength, while relaying Washington’s efforts to review its North Korea policy during his recent trip to Tokyo.

The foreign minister also positively assessed the U.S. stance that all options are on the table.

Kishida added that preserving peace through diplomacy is the basic principle and stressed close communication between Washington and Tokyo.
