China Repeats Calls for Avoiding Acts that Escalate Tensions

China has repeated its calls for avoiding remarks and actions that may escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula amid growing threats of provocation from North Korea.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Wednesday during a regular briefing that Beijing has stated its position and expressed grave concern over the North’s nuclear and missile development.
The spokesman said China remains firm in its position that it is committed to denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, keeping peace and stability in the region and resolving issues through dialogue.
He reiterated China is against any acts that will heighten tensions and urged relevant parties to work towards easing the current situation.
