China and Russia have agreed to address Korean Peninsula issues through mutual communication and cooperation.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed concerns about North Korea and Syria. They met Friday on the sidelines of a foreign ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Tajikistan.

The two ministers agreed now is an important time to determine a future course for the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

They also agreed to pursue more concrete ways to resume talks on the North's nuclear issue as Beijing and Moscow insist dialogue is the key to solving the problem.

Wang said China and Russia maintain close communication and cooperation regarding regional and global concerns.

Lavrov said China and Russia hold a special responsibility in retaining global peace and security. He agreed that authoritarianism and unilateralism must be prevented in dealing with global crises.
