Survey: 92% of N. Korean Defectors 'Proud' to be S. Korean

A new survey finds nine out of ten North Korean defectors are proud to be South Koreans.
The Korea Hana Foundation, an arm of the Unification Ministry, conducted the survey last year on over two-thousand-660 North Korean defectors residing in the South.
Results released Saturday show more than 92 percent said "yes" to the question of whether they were proud to be a South Korean citizens.
Forty-eight percent said "very proud" and 44 percent said "modestly proud."
Seven percent said "not very much" and only half a percent or 16 people said "not at all."
There was a higher percentage of a very positive answer among older defectors.
Nearly 64 percent of defectors in their 60s and older answered they are "very proud" to have South Korean citizenship, compared to 47 percent for those in their 30s and 39 percent for teens.
The percent of defectors being proud to be South Korean is up significantly from 62 percent in a separate survey.
