North Korea has issued a fresh threat over the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier, which is expected to arrive in the waters near the Korean Peninsula around Tuesday.

The Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, said in a commentary on Sunday that the North Korean military is ready to strike and destroy the United States nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

The paper said that the North Korean military is equipped with the up-to-date means of attack and defense including a hydrogen bomb.

Japanese media reported that two warships from Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Forces on Sunday will join an exercise with the U.S. strike group in the West Pacific.

There are speculations that North Korea could conduct a nuclear test or launch a long-range missile as soon as the Carl Vinson approaches the peninsula.
