US: N. Korean Aggression on Carl Vinson to Be Dealt with Accordingly
In response to Pyongyang’s threat to destroy a U.S. aircraft carrier approaching the Korean Peninsula, Washington said it will meet any North Korean aggression with an appropriate response.
A U.S. State Department spokesperson said on Sunday that the U.S. neither seeks military conflict, nor aims to threaten the North but will accordingly respond to threats against the U.S. and its allies.
The spokesperson also said the U.S. remains open to talks with the North, but needs to see whether Pyongyang will cease all its illegal activities and aggressive behaviors in the region.
The spokesperson emphasized that the U.S., together with the international community, will hold the Kim Jong-un regime accountable for its “dangerous and reckless actions and serious human rights abuses.”
In a commentary on Sunday, the Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, threatened that the North’s military is ready to strike and destroy the USS Carl Vinson, which is expected to arrive in waters near the Korean Peninsula around Tuesday.
