Report: South Korea’s chief delegate to the six-way nuclear talks, Kim Hong-kyun, said Tuesday that he and his U.S. and Japanese counterparts agreed to seek unbearable punitive measures against North Korea if it goes ahead with more provocations.

Kim met with U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun and Japan's Director-General for the Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Kenji Kanasugi in Tokyo.

Kim, however, stopped short of elaborating on the strong measures, saying it is not appropriate to go into details.

He only said that the three countries will seek stronger measures than those that have been used to pressure the North so far, including UN Security Council(UNSC) resolutions, various countries’ independent sanctions and the international community’s pressure.

Kim said that the three countries shared the view that efforts must be focused on getting the North on board for denuclearization by strengthening sanctions and pressure on Pyongyang at the present state.

Kim went on to say that the UNSC meeting that will open on Friday will mark a key milestone in achieving the joint goals of the North's denuclearization and not tolerating the North’s nuclear ambitions.

The top nuclear negotiators also agreed that it is important to work together with China and Russia in order to yield results in pressuring the North.

The U.S.’ nuclear envoy stressed to reporters that China’s role, in particular, is very important.

The nuclear envoys’ meeting came as the North is marking the 85th anniversary of the foundation of its military on Tuesday.
