Trump also said that Xi has “real power” over the North in a press conference at the White House on Tuesday.
As Trump continues to issue strong warnings against North Korea’s ongoing nuclear threats, his comments about Xi appear to reveal his expectations about China’s role in resolving the North Korea issue.
Cory Gardner, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia and Pacific Affairs, has also expressed support for pressing Pyongyang through Beijing.

“The U.S. policy toward North Korea should be straightforward. The U.S. will deploy every and all economic, diplomatic, and if necessary, military tool at our disposal to deter Pyongyang.”
Another U.S. senator, Lindsey Graham, warned North Korea that it should not underestimate Trump’s resolve to defend the U.S. from North Korean missiles, saying Trump will now allow the “nutjob” leader of the North to develop missiles that could threaten the U.S.
In a move deemed as rare by U.S. media outlets, Trump is scheduled to invite all U.S. Senate members to the White House on Wednesday to explain the U.S. government’s policies on North Korea.
