Top Security Advisers of S. Korea, U.S. Discuss THAAD, N. Korea

South Korea’s top national security adviser and his American counterpart have jointly assessed that the U.S. THAAD antimissile system is being smoothly deployed in the South to counter provocation threats from North Korea.
According to a news release distributed by the presidential office in Seoul, National Security Adviser Kim Kwan-jin and his U.S. counterpart Herbert McMaster held a 25-minute-long phone talk on Thursday morning.
In the phone conversation, the two national security advisers also pledged to further boost military readiness posture through a solid South Korea-U.S. alliance including the strengthening of extended deterrence.
The two officials also agreed that if the North carries out any strategic provocations, they will push for a new UN Security Council resolution and swiftly take harsh punitive actions, which the North will find unbearable.
