Female Activists Call for Peace on Korean Peninsula

An organization of female peace activists has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to defuse military tensions and start peace talks to prevent a war from erupting on the Korean Peninsula.
According to the New York Times on Wednesday, the organization “Women Cross DMZ” sent a letter to the U.S. president, saying that they are united by the belief that diplomacy is the only way to resolve the nuclear crisis and threat of war now facing the Korean Peninsula. It also stressed that peace is the most powerful deterrent of all.
The female peace activists called on Trump to negotiate a freeze on North Korea’s nuclear and long-range ballistic programs in exchange for offering a security guarantee to Pyongyang, which would include suspending military exercises and actions by the U.S. and South Korea.
They also urged the U.S. president to address the root cause of the North Korean crisis by negotiating a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War.
The letter was signed by hundreds of female peace activists from roughly 40 countries, including South Korea, North Korea, the U.S. and Japan. The organization said that North Korea was represented by the Korea Socialist Women’s Union.
Copies of the letter were also sent to several senators who attended a briefing on North Korea, which was hosted by the White House on Wednesday.
