Anchor: A Japanese news agency reported that the U.S. government has told China that it is open to inviting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for talks in the U.S. The talks would be held under the condition Kim gave up his nuclear weapons program, but the Trump administration is also said to have promised the young North Korean dictator that it will not seek to collapse his regime.

Report: U.S. President Donald Trump is reported to have told China that he is open to holding talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un if his regime gives up its nuclear and missile programs.
Japan's Kyodo News on Tuesday reported that the Trump administration revealed its willingness to invite Kim for talks in the U.S.
In return for North Korea's scrapping of its nuclear weapons program, the U.S. promised that it would not seek a regime change or regime collapse in the North. Washington is also said to have guaranteed that it will not try to accelerate the reunification of the two Koreas nor would its military cross the inter-Korean border.
Kyodo News said that Beijing is believed to have delivered the proposition to Pyongyang.
China is said to have suggested that the U.S. offers economic aid to North Korea and the two sides work together to sign a peace treaty, on the premise the Kim Jong-un regime agrees to denuclearization.
The latest report came as North Korean officials and former U.S. officials now in the civilian sector were poised to hold secret contact in Norway.
In an interview with Bloomberg earlier this month, the U.S. president said if it would be appropriate for him to meet with Kim, he would be "honored to do it."
With the U.S. taking a carrot-and-stick approach, North Korea recently announced that it arrested another American citizen and is conducting a detailed investigation into his alleged crimes. The detainment brought the total number of American citizens being held in the North to four.
