N. Korea, US Hold Track 1.5 Dialogue in Norway

A senior North Korean diplomat began unofficial talks with former U.S. officials on the outskirts of Oslo on Monday in a so-called track one-point-five dialogue involving government and civilian experts.

A diplomatic source in Norway said the discussions will continue until Tuesday.

The North Korean delegation is reportedly led by Choe Son-hui, director-general of the Foreign Ministry's North America bureau.

Her counterpart is Suzanne DiMaggio, director and senior fellow at New America, a think tank based in Washington D.C. Former U.S. State Department officials who have participated in track one-point-five dialogue with the North also joined the talks.

New America said DiMaggio has led track one-point-five and nongovernmental track two talks on regional security, terrorism, nonproliferation, governance and development for more than 15 years.

DiMaggio also heads the U.S.-Iran Initiative, which analyzes and proposes policies to support relations between the two countries.
