N. Korean Newspaper Reports about Moon Jae-in’s Victory

A pro-North Korean newspaper has reported about the election of Moon Jae-in as South Korea’s new president.
Japan-based Choson Sinbo said on Wednesday that the liberal Democratic Party’s candidate Moon Jae-in became the next South Korean president in the election held on Tuesday, putting an end to the nine-year reign of conservative governments led by Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye.
It said that the May ninth presidential election, which was held seven months earlier than originally scheduled, stemmed from candlelight rallies against a corrupt government.
The newspaper stressed that the power transition brought by Moon’s election is another victory candlelight protesters have achieved in addition to the impeachment and dismissal of former President Park Geun-hye.
The Choson Sinbo’s report came about one hour and 20 minutes after President Moon jae-in officially began his presidential term.
In 2012, it reported about the election of Park Geun-hye two days after the South Korean presidential election.
