China Ambiguous about Report of US-N. Korea Summit Proposal

China has neither confirmed nor denied a media report that Washington delivered a proposal of a U.S.-North Korea summit to Pyongyang through Beijing.
Asked about the report in a regular news briefing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that China has noted remarks from the U.S. on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the positive message that the issue will be peacefully resolved through dialogue and consultation.
He then said Beijing believes that relevant parties have also noted the remarks and the message, and will take them seriously.
The spokesman stressed that the U.S. and North Korea, as the two directly concerned parties, should demonstrate their sincerity toward each other and gradually build up mutual trust, urging them to join China to “bring the issue back to the right track of peaceful settlement through dialogue and consultation.”
Japan's Kyodo News on Tuesday reported that the Trump administration informed China that the U.S. president is open to holding talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un if his regime gives up its nuclear and missile programs. It said that Beijing is believed to have delivered the proposition to Pyongyang.
