Germany to Ban N. Korea from Leasing Diplomatic Post in Berlin
German media outlets said that the government will soon ban the North Korean embassy in Berlin from leasing its space for profit.
Confirming Tuesday reports by broadcasters Sueddeutsche Zeitung(SZ), NDR and WRD, German deputy foreign minister Markus Ederer said the government will continuously implement the sanctions slapped on the North by the UN and the European Union.
Ederer noted more efforts are needed to dry up the financial resources being used to fund the North's nuclear program, adding that the German authorities will take necessary measures.
SZ said that since 2014 the North has leased some of its diplomatic post in Berlin to the operator of a youth hostel and conference center in return for 38-thousand euro, or 46-point-eight million won, every month.
The UN Security Council Resolution 2321, adopted in response to the North’s fifth nuclear test in September, bans the North from commercially using its diplomatic posts overseas for commercial purposes.
