USPACOM: Sunday’s N. Korean Missile Not Believed to be ICBM

The United States Pacific Command says that it detected a missile launch by North Korea at around 5: 30 a.m. Sunday.

The command said in a statement that the missile was fired from Kusong, about 100 kilometers north of Pyongyang, and landed in the East Sea, adding that the missile's flight pattern was “not consistent” with an intercontinental ballistic missile. But the command did not elaborate on its assumption about the type of missile.

Command Spokesman Rob Shuford said that the North American Aerospace Defense Command concluded that the latest missile did not threaten the United States and North America.

South Korea's Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that the missile was launched at 5:27 a.m. from Kusong, North Pyongan Province and flew for about 700 kilometers before landing in the East Sea. The JCS added that South Korea and the United States are closely analyzing more information.
